Tue, 26 May 2026 Ferry frustrations and housing concerns in Gorey

Café owners and others in Gorey tell the BBC a new freight pricing model is driving up costs.

* Residents in Grouville and St Martin, Jersey spoke to the BBC about their concerns ahead of the 2026 general election.
* A business owner in Gorey said the cost of eggs had more than doubled over the last three years due to a flat rate freight contract introduced last year.
* The contract means all freight providers pay the same per meter of space on ships, making it less competitive.
* A resident in St Martin expressed concern about the added costs of living due to ferry prices and said she wishes Jersey had stayed with Condor ferries.
* Another resident in Grouville shared concerns about housing affordability, stating that unless a "miracle-changing event" happens, she will have to leave Jersey because it's not viable for her to stay.
