The government is committing many millions of pounds to the new theme park planned for Bedfordshire.
Government Investment: - £1.3bn investment in infrastructure to support Universal United Kingdom Resort - 28,000 jobs expected between now and opening in 2031 - "Unlock nearly £50bn of economic growth" Infrastructure Upgrades: - £474m allocated by Department for Transport for A421 upgrades and new Wixams railway station - Universal wants a new junction on the A421 to directly feed traffic into resort - Four-platform stop at Wixams to handle tourist influx - Expected connectivity via Stewartby with four trains an hour to Oxford by early 2030s Government Support: - £400m grant from Regional Growth Fund, paid once Universal completes infrastructure and opens park - £438m grant for "new community infrastructure" from Department for Culture, Media and Sport Universal's Investment: - £6bn total investment in resort - Chancellor views as "big vote of confidence" in UK - Private investment to boost jobs and economy Local Concerns: - Concerns about water infrastructure and impact on local businesses - Some locals worry big chains will move in and take over
