The US president said on Friday he expects to meet the leaders of top AI companies next week.
US President Donald Trump plans to meet with CEOs of major AI companies, including Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, SpaceX, and Anthropic, to discuss government investment in their future. The goal of this investment is to create a "partnership" between the US government and the American public. The government would take a financial stake in these companies, similar to its 10% stake in Intel last year. Trump hopes that by investing in AI, Americans will come to view it more positively. He compared this approach to Senator Bernie Sanders' proposal for a sovereign wealth fund that would give the US a 50% stake in AI companies. However, Trump said he had been considering government investment in AI for a year and did not dismiss Sanders' idea. Anthropic, one of the companies involved, is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with the US Department of Defense but has been engaging in "daily conversations" with the government to find ways to be helpful to national security.
