Mon, 08 Jun 2026 Jailed crypto founder Sam Bankman-Fried seeks Trump pardon

The former leader of crypto platform FTX, currently serving a 25-year sentence, on Monday officially applied to be pardoned.
Sam Bankman-Fried, a convicted cryptocurrency fraudster serving a 25-year sentence, has applied for a pardon from President Donald Trump through the Department of Justice. He filed an application for "pardon after completion of sentence", which would forgive his conviction on various counts of fraud after he serves his jail time. This is not a request for commutation, which would shorten his sentence. Bankman-Fried's lawyer did not comment on the matter and a White House representative also declined to comment. It is unclear if Trump will consider Bankman-Fried's application, as he previously indicated he would not pardon him. The Department of Justice has over 20,000 applications for either pardons or commutations.
