* Mitchell Cohen, owner of Economy Candy, believes people will always buy candy during difficult times due to its affordability.
* The Village Confectionery is set to open in Sleepy Hollow, NY, next month, catering to the increasing demand for sweet treats.
* BonBon, an upmarket candy store company founded by Swedish expats in 2018, has seen a rise in popularity thanks to social media and now has five shops across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
* Candy King, a Swedish sweet shop chain, opened its first US outlet in Manhattan last December, and Cat Cirino's Candor Candy's launched in Brooklyn in March.
* With many confectionary supplies coming from overseas, retailers are facing increased wholesale prices due to import tariffs and global transport costs.
