Romance and investment fraud is at record levels but what can you do to prevent being caught out.
1. Phishing Scams: Messages claiming to be from a bank or organization, asking you to update your details by tapping on a link. To avoid: Type out the website URL instead of clicking on the link.
2. Romance Scams: Scammers posing as someone you've met online, building a relationship and eventually asking for money. To avoid: Use reverse image search to verify the person's identity, and never send money to someone you haven't met in person.
3. Investment Scams: Celebrities or fake voices promising rapid returns on investments. To avoid: Take your time when making decisions, check if the investment firm is authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and use contact details from the FCA's website instead of links on social media.
