The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says Amazon has broken consumer protection law
The Australian government's consumer watchdog, the ACCC, has taken Amazon to court over allegations that the tech giant introduced ads into its Prime Video streaming service through allegedly unfair contract terms. The company is accused of breaching consumer protection laws by making millions of customers pay extra to maintain an ad-free experience. Over a million subscribers between November 2023 and August 2025 are said to have been affected, with some being forced to pay an additional $12.99 AUD per month to avoid ads. Amazon has stated that it is reviewing the case in detail and cooperating with the ACCC's investigation.
