The new assessment was required by the industry regulator, after it found several areas had not been adequately addressed in a previous submission.
* Adura, a joint venture between Shell and Equinor, claims that emissions from the Jackdaw gas field will have "no material influence" on global warming.
* The company's updated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) states that the project would account for less than 0.02% of annual global greenhouse gases during its lifetime.
* This contradicts a previous revised EIA, which estimated that the Jackdaw field could produce up to 35.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions or equivalent during its lifetime.
* Adura claims that displacing imported liquified natural gas (LNG) with gas from the Jackdaw field would save around four million tonnes of CO2 equivalent and result in "minor" climate effects due to the UK's well-regulated industry.
* Environmental groups Uplift and Greenpeace have challenged these claims, arguing that new oil and gas field approvals are incompatible with keeping global warming below 1.5°C.
* The UK government was previously found to have acted unlawfully by approving the Jackdaw project without considering its climate impact.
