Fri, 10 Jul 2026 Drivers urged to shop around amid 11p fuel gap

The RAC says motorists are missing out on savings because many are not using price comparison tools.
Taxi driver Wayne Parsons said high fuel prices were crippling him, despite filling up at one of the cheapest garages in the area. An RAC study found that drivers are missing out on savings because they're not using price comparison tools like Fuel Finder. The service aims to save households £40 a year by increasing competition between retailers. However, some petrol stations have been accused of failing to report live prices changes, with hundreds of warning letters issued by the Competition and Markets Authority. A snapshot of petrol prices in Hull found a difference of over 11p per litre between forecourts just three miles apart. The RAC's Simon Williams urged drivers to use comparison apps to save money. Meanwhile, motorists like Christine Colville are cutting back on non-essential trips due to the high cost of fuel.
