Wed, 15 Jul 2026 EasyJet passengers stuck on tarmac for hours when plane couldn't refuel

One passenger said she only got home at 06:00 after being stuck on the runway in the middle of the night.
One passenger, Sammy, said she didn't get home until around 06:00 due to further delays in getting her luggage. She claimed the airline struggled to refuel the plane and staff were unavailable for a while. EasyJet apologised for the inconvenience caused by the diversion and delay in disembarking. According to an aviation source, fuel on the Easyjet plane may have been so low after circling over Gatwick that it needed to land urgently and divert to Stansted instead of its bases in Southend and Luton. The airline has no base at Stansted and no ground handling support, which made it difficult for passengers to disembark. The diversion came after a BA plane temporarily blocked a runway at Gatwick Airport due to a technical issue with the landing gear. Emergency services met the plane as a precaution upon landing.
