A group including the former England footballer write to the new PM telling him "we can afford it".
A group of 120 wealthy individuals, including former footballer Gary Lineker and music producer Brian Eno, have signed an open letter calling for increased taxation on those with wealth over £10m. The signatories argue that they can afford to contribute more to the economy and believe that this would lead to a more equal society. They propose a 2% tax on their wealth, which would generate significant revenue. The group, organized by Patriotic Millionaires, believes that this move would allow for investment in essential public services and infrastructure. However, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has responded with skepticism, suggesting that individuals can voluntarily donate to the Treasury if they wish to pay more tax.
