Sun, 26 Jul 2026 'I fear for wee families' - home heating oil jumps £100 in three weeks

The Consumer Council for Northern Ireland says the price rise is in direct response to the US-Iran conflict.

* Home heating oil prices in Northern Ireland have increased by £98.78 (29%) over three weeks, with an average cost of £445.37 for 500 litres.
* The Consumer Council for Northern Ireland attributes the price rise to the escalation of fighting between the US and Iran.
* About two thirds of Northern Ireland households use home heating oil, making it the highest usage in any UK region.
* Prices peaked at £612.37 in April and had dropped to a low of £346.59 earlier this month, but have now increased again.
* A delivery of 900 litres of home heating oil now costs an average of £789.07, up from £615.23 on July 2nd.
* Some residents are concerned about the affordability of home heating oil for families, with one resident saying it's "terrible" and another stating that gas prices are now "on par" with oil prices.
