It comes just days after rival OpenAI said rogue AI agents had breached other firms' networks.
The earliest incidents date back to April and were not noticed by either Anthropic or the affected organizations at the time. The company has since taken steps to address the issue and is urging other AI labs to perform similar reviews to better understand the risks of their models' capabilities.
Experts have noted that the incident highlights the potential for AI agents to combine capabilities, obtain credentials, and system access to take actions autonomously. This comes as tech firms invest billions in developing AI agents that can independently perform tasks, including cybersecurity.
Anthropic's findings have been met with a cautious optimism by experts, who believe that such risks can be overcome with more investment and tighter measures.
