Fri, 31 Jul 2026 Sainsbury's agrees to sell Argos for £120m

Under the terms of the deal, Argos will still operate in Sainsbury's shops, sell Habitat products, and offer Nectar points.
Argos customers, staff and suppliers will see no change with Swift Partners buying the brand, including former Co-operative Group boss Richard Pennycook. 667 Argos shops are across the UK, 466 operate within Sainsbury's stores and 201 are standalone stores. It also has over 450 collection points. The deal is expected to be completed in February next year and all of Argos's nearly 14,000 staff will be transferred to Swift Partners. Argos will continue to operate in Sainsbury's shops with Nectar points remaining across both businesses. Swift Partners' Pennycook said he believes "strongly in Argos's future" and sees opportunities to invest and build on its progress. Retail expert Catherine Shuttleworth praised the user-friendliness of Argos' app and click-and-collect model, saying it can give a "bloody nose" to online retail giants like Amazon.
