Wed, 05 Aug 2026 New clothing saved from waste by sewing charity

Unwanted clothes are reworked and donated by Dressability in Swindon instead of going to landfill.
The charity mainly alters clothing for people with disabilities, but launched its rebranding project after receiving coats that would otherwise have gone to waste. The project involves removing or covering company branding on the garments before they are donated. Local companies such as Osnic Embroidery in Weston-super-Mare supply the charity with surplus stock of branded clothing. Instead of being thrown away, these items are sent to Dressability where they can be used again after the logos and branding have been removed or covered. Dressability is appealing for local sewing groups to volunteer their time and skills to help meet growing demand. The charity distributes more than 1,000 items a year and receives five calls a week from companies looking to donate clothing.
