Accell, based in the Netherlands, has owned the famous bike brand since 2012.
Raleigh, the historic bike manufacturer that once held the title of largest bicycle maker in the world, has initiated insolvency proceedings after its parent company Accell exhausted all available options to meet financial obligations. The Nottingham-based firm, which was sold to Accell for $100m in 2012, had previously suffered significant losses and redundancies. Despite attempts at restructuring and relocating to new premises in 2024, the company has been unable to recover from its financial struggles. Accell's chief executive Jonas Nilsson expressed his disappointment and frustration with the situation, stating that every realistic option for the future of Raleigh had been explored without finding a solution.
