Wed, 12 Aug 2026 PM admits cost of living help is not enough and hints at further support

The PM has announced a rake of measures to help people since taking office three weeks ago.

* Overhauling train fares
* Increasing public control over energy, water, and housing services
* Remodeling rail fares for greater public benefit Burnham states that his current announcements are not enough to help people struggling with the cost of living, but he is working towards a more substantial solution. He plans to deliver further support through upcoming budget measures. He also mentions that he has asked Chancellor John Healey to look into what additional steps can be taken on the cost of living in the upcoming Budget on October 28th. However, Healey has stated that he will prioritize "strong fiscal discipline," which may limit government spending. Burnham's comments come as the government recently announced a £250 annual discount for households near new electricity pylons and substations across Britain.
