US investigators have released a preliminary report on an incident involving a Ryanair plane that took off from Greece on July 10. A window was dislodged due to broken engine fragments, causing one passenger's head and shoulder to be sucked out of the plane. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated that an engine fan blade broke shortly after takeoff, leading to the failure. The crew reported hearing a loud bang and increased vibrations before declaring an emergency and returning to Thessaloniki International Airport for an uneventful landing. The passenger involved was seriously injured and in shock. The NTSB is investigating the incident with assistance from Greek authorities.
