Senior Fifa figure Kevin Lamour is sacked by football's world governing body three weeks after criticising its president Gianni Infantino.
FIFA's Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour has been dismissed by the governing body, just under three weeks after he publicly criticized President Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors.
A FIFA spokesperson confirmed that Lamour's working relationship with the organization ended on August 17, 2026, and thanked him for his two years of service. Lamour had previously described Infantino's proposal as "the project of one person" and said the president's plan would have harmed the interests of football fans.
Infantino's plan to create a new company to manage commercial and ticketing rights was met with widespread criticism from FIFA member associations, including UEFA and Concacaf. The plan was eventually abandoned after Infantino's proposal to sell 21% of the company to private investors received backlash.
Lamour joined FIFA in November 2024 and had been critical of Infantino's leadership style, saying that a president should bring people together, unite them, and inspire them, which he claimed Infantino failed to do. Lamour has now left his position at FIFA, but the reason for his departure is unclear.
