Prime Minister Carney hailed "significant progress" in trade talks as the two countries seek to hammer out final details ahead of a new weekend tariff deadline.
* Deal eliminates several trade irritants, according to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer
* Tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum may be cut from 50% to 25%
* US tariffs on Canadian-made vehicles may be lowered from 25% to 15%
* Canada agrees to remove tariffs on US alcohol, allowing its return to Canadian markets
* Details of the agreement have not yet been announced in full
* Business organisations from both sides of the border welcome the deal, saying it will prevent additional harm to trade between the two countries.
