Tue, 25 Aug 2026 Jersey earnings rise by 1.2% after inflation

Statistics Jersey says the increase is "slightly lower" than the long-term annual average.

* Average earnings in Jersey rose by 1.2% in real terms in the year to June.
* However, this was lower than the rate of inflation (2.8%), meaning that earnings did not keep up with price increases.
* The increase in average earnings was also lower than the long-term annual average of 4.2%.
* In the private sector, average earnings in real terms increased by 0.9% over 12 years, while in the public sector they increased by 2.9% over the same period.
* However, over a longer period (25 years), average earnings in real terms in the public sector actually decreased by 3%, while they increased by 1.2% in the private sector.
* Statistics Jersey said that many factors can affect inflation, including petrol prices and food costs, which have risen recently.
* Experts are calling on employers to ensure their staff are paid well and for services and products to be priced correctly to combat inflation.
* A statistician from Statistics Jersey noted that real-term earnings have not changed much since 2001, while an executive director at Law At Work said that many people are taking on secondary roles to boost their income.
