Fri, 28 Aug 2026 Colman's Mustard put up for sale ahead of merger

The sale comes before a proposed merger between parent company Unilever and McCormick.

* Colman's Mustard, a famous Norfolk-based brand, has been put up for sale by Unilever ahead of a merger with American food giant McCormick.
* The company was founded in 1814 by Jeremiah Colman and had a factory in Norwich for 160 years before production moved to Burton-on-Trent and Germany in 2020.
* The Carrow site, where the mustard was produced until its closure in 2019, has been left vacant since then and is earmarked for thousands of homes.
* Unilever will focus on home and personal care with brands including Dove, Persil and Lynx after the merger.
* McCormick will take control of household names including Hellmann's, Marmite, Knorr and Pot Noodle as well as French's mustard.
* Discussions are ongoing about the sale of Colman's Mustard brand and assets to potential buyers.
