The iPhone maker follows rival technology giant Google in relabelling the Great Lake.
* Apple Maps has renamed Lake Ontario as "Lake America" for US-based users, following an order from US President Donald Trump.
* The change was made after trade talks between the US and Canada collapsed, with Washington imposing new 50% tariffs on $20bn worth of Canadian goods.
* Rival technology giant Google made a similar switch for its US users in recent days, but some map providers such as MapQuest have refused to adopt the new name.
* The change is only visible to US-based users of Apple Maps, while those in Canada will continue to see Lake Ontario displayed.
* Trump has posted several AI-generated videos on social media, including a clip of him kicking over a Lake Ontario sign and replacing it with one that says "Welcome to Lake America".
* Canada has responded to the move by installing a new sign at the lake itself, reading "Lake Ontario. Now and Always".
