Mon, 07 Sep 2026 China to pump $54bn into state banks and insurers to boost economy

It comes as Beijing is aiming to reshape its economy in the face of a number of challenges.

* China's finance ministry is leading a cash injection of 360 billion yuan ($53.6bn; £39.7bn) into eight state-owned banks and insurance companies.
* The move aims to help shore up the country's financial system, boost its slowing economy, and enhance the operating capabilities of the affected institutions.
* The package will benefit three big lenders and five insurers, including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China.
* President Xi Jinping sees financial stability as key to China's national security, and this move is part of Beijing's efforts to reinvigorate the economy in the face of challenges such as trade tensions, an aging population, and a shrinking workforce.
* China's economic growth slowed to 4.3% in Q2, below the government's annual target, and the finance ministry's injection is aimed at stabilizing the financial system and boosting credit for the real economy.
