The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce warned that the island faces "a very hard five years" due to a shrinking tax base and loss of high-earning jobs. Residents in Douglas said rising prices were affecting everyday life, with many describing the cost of living as their biggest concern. Businesses described the last few years as some of the hardest they had faced, with owners reporting stagnant takings despite higher bills. The island's foodbank saw a 100% increase in demand for support over two years, with 80% of those it supported being working full-time but not earning enough to make ends meet. A business lobby group warned that the island was entering "a very hard five years" of economic challenges, citing pressures on public finances and job losses.
