Wed, 09 Sep 2026 US slaps import ban on Canadian alcohol, motorbikes and other goods

It is the latest strike in a long trade war, and comes as Canadian counter-tariffs on US goods come into force.

* Golf carts The ban, which comes into effect on September 29th, is in response to Canada's imposition of retaliatory tariffs on US goods. The White House has accused Canada of discriminating against US businesses by restricting American goods while not doing the same for products from other countries. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that his country's decision to impose counter-tariffs was a necessary step to protect Canadian industries, but acknowledged that there would be costs associated with this move. The trade war between the two countries is expected to have significant economic implications for both sides.
