Wed, 16 Sep 2026 Electricity discount to be paid to NI households

The one-off £63 reduction in electricity bills will be paid from next month.

* All households in Northern Ireland will receive a one-off £63 reduction in electricity bills from next month.
* The reduction will be applied automatically without the need for an application, and will be paid directly into bank accounts or as credit on pay-as-you-go meters.
* Pay-as-you-go customers should not top up more than £112 at once to ensure they receive the full discount.
* The reduction is part of a wider scheme to help households with rising energy bills, which are currently over twice as expensive as last year due to factors such as the US conflict with Iran.
* A separate means-tested scheme providing a £100 voucher for heating oil users has also been announced.
