Mon, 21 Sep 2026 Paramount settles lawsuit with US states, clearing way for $110bn merger with Warner Bros

The deal includes an agreement to produce 30 films a year, or Paramount will be forced to sell off parts of its company.

* Paramount Skydance has settled a lawsuit with a dozen US states, allowing its $110bn merger with Warner Bros Discovery to proceed.
* As part of the agreement, Paramount must: + Produce at least 30 films per year + Ensure that a certain percentage of films are produced in the US (increasing from 20% to 30% over time) + Face penalties, including selling off parts of its business, if it fails to meet these requirements.
* The studio will also pay $17.5m into the Writers Guild of America health fund and cover legal fees.
* Paramount has agreed not to lay off writers at CBS News Broadcast for five years.
* An independent monitor will be appointed to oversee compliance with the settlement.
* California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the deal would boost film production in the US, potentially generating $300m-$1.5bn more economic activity per year.
