Mon, 28 Sep 2026 Uni student living at home 'wasn't ready' to move away

A third of students starting courses are living at home, the University of Gloucestershire says.

* Many students say they are financially better off by staying close to home and commuting rather than paying for accommodation.
* Ofelia Bines, a communications and media student, said she "wasn't ready" to leave her hometown of Gloucester yet and that most people she knew were doing the same thing.
* Taylor Barker, a forensic psychology student, makes a 40-minute commute to lectures and says studying from home is "a bonus" and financially it works out better to commute.
* The university has expanded support for students with flexible accommodation options and discounted travel for commuters.
