Tue, 29 Sep 2026 Proposed budget 'a step in the right direction'

The government releases its proposed budget with "targeted measures" to help families.

* Jersey's government has released its budget for 2027-2030, which includes targeted measures to help families with the cost of living.
* Measures include: + Increasing free nursery care for two-to-three-year-olds from 15 hours to 20 hours a week + Doubling the parental grant to £1,800 for families with newborns or adopting a child + A £250 family support payment for each school-aged child in low-to-middle-income households + Free school meals extended to secondary school pupils on the Jersey Premium funding scheme
* The Health Department's funding will increase by £25m.
* Revenues from Pillar Two, a global rate of corporation tax, will be used to pay towards building the new acute hospital at Overdale.
* Treasury Minister Alan Maclean said the budget is a "small step in the right direction" towards addressing concerns about Jersey spending more than it earns.
