Tue, 06 Oct 2026 Banks still refusing credit cards, watchdog says

Applications are being denied despite a change to make it easier, Jersey Consumer Council says.

* Islanders still struggling to get credit cards despite changes meant to make applications easier
* Personal data can now be shared securely with UK credit reference agencies, but several providers have refused applications
* Jersey Consumer Council is calling for government to work closer with businesses and banks to encourage them to offer credit cards in the island
* Government says it has "engaged with providers throughout this process" and whether products are offered in Jersey remains a commercial decision
* Credit card companies may need convincing to bring their business back, as they had previously been deterred by Jersey's data protection policies.
