Thu, 08 Oct 2026 Chrysler Building to get its crown restored after being sold

The distinctive Manhattan skyscraper will undergo a major renovation and provide a new supply of offices.

* The Chrysler Building, one of Manhattan's most iconic skyscrapers, will undergo a major renovation as part of a $235m (£178m) sale deal.
* Developer Tishman Speyer has taken over the lease from Cooper Union and plans to upgrade the building for office space, using a "prebuild approach" that allows companies to move in quickly.
* The renovation will include polishing and restoring the Art Deco crown, as well as upgrading the façade and internal systems, including mechanical, elevator, electrical, and air handling systems.
* The Chrysler Building was once the world's tallest building at 1,046ft (319m), but lost that title less than a year later to the Empire State Building.
* As part of the deal, Tishman Speyer will make ground lease payments to Cooper Union, which plans to use the funds for full-tuition scholarships for undergraduates.
