Fri, 09 Oct 2026 Everton owners consider selling club two years after takeover

Everton owners the Friedkin Group are exploring the sale of the club less than two years after taking control.
Everton FC's owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are considering selling the club after less than two years in charge. TFG took control of Everton in 2024 for a reported £400m, but have now announced that they will explore "new investment options" including a potential sale. In a statement, TFG said that they had prioritized stability and investment under their ownership, and helped bring the club's new stadium to completion. However, the group's leadership has faced criticism from fans in recent months over their handling of transfer dealings, particularly the failed sale of midfielder Harrison Armstrong. TFG chairman Dan Friedkin has been absent from Everton's day-to-day affairs since the club was taken over, leaving his son-in-law Rishi Majithia to oversee operations. The group has stated that they will only consider selling to "parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards" to take the club forward. Everton fans have expressed concerns about the potential sale of the club, with some fearing that TFG's departure could lead to instability and uncertainty at Goodison Park. The news comes as the club prepares for a busy period in their Premier League schedule, currently sitting seventh in the table after seven matches.
