Car maker Longbow, which hopes to build thousands of cars, says the region has the talent and know-how.
* Longbow, a British carmaker, plans to start production of its hand-built electric sports car, the Speedster, at Mira Tech Park in Nuneaton next year.
* The company will create over 200 skilled jobs and has a waiting list of prospective buyers from around the world willing to pay £85,000 for the limited-edition car.
* Longbow's co-founders and CEOs Daniel Davey and Mark Tapscott said that Warwickshire was chosen as the location due to its strong supply chain, talent pool, and know-how.
* The project was backed by a £3m investment from the government's West Midlands Supplier Readiness and Transformation fund, which will be matched by Longbow.
* Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker attended an event to showcase the Speedster and praised the project for its potential to drive growth in the region.
* Car industry expert Professor David Bailey noted that Longbow is attempting to replicate Tesla's success with a lightweight, fast electric sports car, but warned that more needs to be done to support the auto industry in the region.
