Tue, 13 Oct 2026 Three things we've learnt about the UK economy from the IMF

The influential economics body has upgraded its UK growth forecast for this year, but risks remain.
1. Despite global economic uncertainty, the IMF predicts the UK's economy will expand by 1.3% in 2026, up from a previous forecast of 1%. 2. The UK is doing better than other major economies at addressing its borrowing problem and is projected to have the lowest annual borrowing among G7 countries by 2031. 3. While the IMF's growth forecasts for the UK are positive, it warns that high energy prices and elevated interest rates will affect consumer spending and business investment in 2027, leading to a slowdown in economic growth.
