Wed, 14 Oct 2026 Wayfair among firms fined millions for misleading sales tactics

The Competition and Markets Authority has fined Wayfair, Appliances Direct, and Gold's Gym £6m in total.

* Wayfair: fined £4.8m for misleading customers with time-limited offers
* Appliances Direct: fined £1.2m for the same practice, and ordered to refund customers a total of £440,000 (with an average refund of £25 per customer) + 3,500 Appliances Direct customers will receive refunds of up to £100 each
* Gold's Gym: fined £45,000 for not telling customers the total price of its memberships, and ordered to refund 726 customers a total of £36,000 (with an average refund of up to £50 per customer) All three companies have agreed to settle the case early and cooperate with the CMA's investigation.
