Wed, 28 Oct 2026 Luxury cruise passengers stranded in Cambodia due to soaring fuel costs

The Villa Vie Odyssey suspends its voyage and is working with passengers on "temporary living arrangements".
Luxury cruise ship Villa Vie Odyssey has suspended operations due to skyrocketing fuel costs, leaving nearly 200 passengers stranded in Cambodia. The ship's operator cited "extraordinarily high" fuel prices as the reason for the suspension, with monthly costs per cabin rising to $8,000 (£6,000) in parts of Asia from a previous cost of $1,800. The company said it had taken measures to reduce fuel consumption but these were insufficient to offset the increased costs. Passengers are being offered "temporary living arrangements" while the operator works on disembarkation plans and restructuring efforts that may take up to 60 days.
