Here is what you need to know about the payment that millions will receive from January.
* Up to 20 million households in England will receive a £100 payment to help with their energy bills.
* The payment is for households in council tax bands A to D in England, and the Welsh government has said it will also make a similar payment to all households in these bands.
* Funding has been given to Scotland and Northern Ireland to make the payment as well, but the Scottish government needs to replicate it and the Northern Irish government does not have the authority to do so without agreeing its budget.
* The money will be paid directly into bank accounts from January 2027 for those who pay council tax by direct debit.
* Students living in halls of residence are not eligible, but students renting a private property may receive the payment if it is in council tax bands A to D.
* People can choose what to spend the £100 on, as it will appear directly in their bank accounts.
* The government says the support is to help households with the cost of energy, and the money for the payments comes from a tax rise on banks' corporation tax.
