Musk said it was to make room for production of its Cybercabs - autonomous taxis without a driver.
Tesla will stop producing Cybertruck vehicles at its Texas factory next year, according to Elon Musk. However, it's unclear if this means the vehicle will be discontinued entirely or production shifted elsewhere.
The decision was reportedly made to make room for building more self-driving Cybercab cars. The project's lead engineer, Wes Morrill, suggested that the Cybertruck has been discontinued and its technology is now being used in the Cybercab.
Despite its unique design, the Cybertruck has struggled with sales since its launch in 2023. It was initially expected to sell 250,000 units annually but only managed to reach 20,237 sales in 2025.
Musk had previously expressed his enthusiasm for the vehicle, calling it "the best product Tesla has ever made". However, the Cybertruck's production and sales have been marred by delays, design criticisms, and recalls.
The decision to stop producing the Cybertruck may be a disappointment for its die-hard fans, but it's unclear what the future holds for the vehicle.
